She Leads With Love: Meet Camillia Harris

Meet Camillia Harris from Dayton, Ohio but residing in Atlanta Georgia.

Camillia is a successful serial entrepreneur, a source of inspiration in advocating for mental health, and the visionary behind justUs, MH Foundation. Through her foundation, she organizes nationwide Black Men's Mental Health Conferences specifically tailored towards addressing the mental health needs of black men.

JustUs, MH Foundation was created to bring the Black Men’s Mental Health Conference across the world. The Black Men’s Mental Health Conference was created to bring awareness to the current state of mental health within the African American community with a specifically targeted focus on black men. The Black Men's Mental Health Conference features a variety of engaging discussions to explore the challenges faced by Black men in our community and beyond. Attendees have the opportunity to connect with experts and advocates to learn helpful strategies for addressing mental health issues and promoting positive change.

What inspired you to do the work that you do?

In 2019, I had to endure a heart-wrenching loss when my father tragically succumbed to suicide. The overwhelming sorrow and anguish I experienced during that time motivated me to become proactive, determined to prevent any other individual from feeling devoid of hope or trapped with no escape.

Given the work that your organization does, what would you say to anyone in the community feeling challenged?

If anyone in the community is feeling challenged, I would like to offer words of encouragement and support. Letting them know that they are not alone, to seek support, prioritize self-care and to connect with community resources.

How do you stay motivated and inspired?

My faith. I lean not unto my own understanding. I stay dedicated in knowing that at least one man will know that giving up is no longer an option, that there is a community and a bridge-builder such as myself here and willing to help them. I am resolute in my determination to organize and manifest the black men's mental health conference on a national scale and to draw attention to the need in building awareness in mental health disparities and suicide prevention.

How can our readers support you and your organization’s mission?

It would be for them to spread the word and share the mission. Attend the “Free” conferences and learn, engage and share. Also we encourage donations and sponsorships, as these funds are used to assist our operational costs as we continue to travel nationally and to assist with providing funding for those who might not be able to afford the mental health fees.
